Emergency Medicine Physician
WEP is looking for a residency trained and/or board certified emergency medicine physician (ABEM or AOBEM) to work one weekend shift a month plus two to three regular shifts a month for an average of six shifts a month. Last year there were over 17,000 annual visits. WEP also provides medical control for the Watertown Paramedic Services in the city. Kathleen Hargarten, MD, is currently the ED medical director with partners Christopher George, MD, Jeff Smith, MD and Ed Foster, MD. Besides these 4 full-time board certified physicians there is 1 part-time EM physician and 6 midlevel part-time providers to assist in the care of patients in urgent care and the emergency department. We currently have 11-hour day shifts from 7am- 6pm and 13-hour night shifts from 6pm – 7am. We also have 11-hour/day PA/ NP coverage on weekends and holidays, 4:30pm until 9:00pm Mon-Fri with additional midlevel assistance from 8:00 am -4:30pm during high volume times.
Watertown Memorial Hospital is a 100-bed, not-for-profit community owned hospital. Last year we had 2,461 admissions and 339 births. The medical staff of 45 consists of primary care physicians and a variety of specialists drawing from a primary service area of 26,000 and a secondary service area of 24,000.
